VAN GAAL TELLS MAN UTD FANS HE WANTS TROPHIES IN FINAL SEASON

The Dutch manager has penned a letter to supporters in which he has spoken of his plans for 2016-17 despite speculation linking Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford
Louis van Gaal has delivered a strong message to Manchester United supporters that he fully expects to be in charge next season, outlining his ambitions to bring success to Old Trafford in what would be his final season in charge.
United fans this week received a letter from Van Gaal in which the manager urged them to snap up season tickets ahead of the 2016-17 season and underlined his desire to win trophies in his third campaign at the helm.
The message, sent out to current season-ticket holders, supports the growing view that Van Gaal will remain as manager next term despite continued rumours linking Jose Mourinho with the Old Trafford hot seat.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Manchester United has the best fans in the world, and the relationship between the team and the fans is very special,” Van Gaal told fans in the letter.
“It is my utmost ambition to bring success to this club and, for you, the loyal season ticket holders who support the team week in, week out.
“Everyone is working hard to get the club back where it belongs. Your help along the way has been invaluable and is greatly appreciated by the players.”

Speculation that Mourinho will be installed as United manager before next season has been rife throughout 2015-16, with the omission of Van Gaal from footage promoting the club’s summer tour of China having increased talk that the Dutchman was set for the exit.
But the 64-year-old’s memo is the latest sign he has been given the nod to continue making plans, coming hot on the heels of his claim at the weekend that it was the club who insisted he sign for a three-year term.
“We always knew that the process would take three years. I wanted to sign only for two years,” said Van Gaal.
“The club wanted me to sign for three years, not me. I signed for three years – so next year you will see me again.”
United currently sit four points behind Manchester City in the race for Champions League qualification, while they have also secured an FA Cup final date with Crystal Palace on May 21.
