Luis Enrique: Barcelona suffered at times but came through at the end

GRANADA, Spain -- After Saturday's 3-0 win at Granada sealed La Liga title for Barcelona, coach Luis Enrique admitted his team had suffered in some moments this season but could now celebrate their latest Primera Division trophy.

Barcelona went into the last round of games just one point ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, and Los Blancos were even ahead in the live table for 15 minutes after Cristiano Ronaldo scored at Deportivo La Coruna.

But Luis Suarez soon scored to settle any Barca nerves and went on to complete his latest hat trick to ensure there was no last minute embarrassment for his side while also personallyclaiming the La Liga Pichichi top scorer crown with 40 goals this season.

In April, Barcelona endured a shocking stretch of three straight losses in the league to make the title race close before finishing with five straight wins.

Speaking at his postgame news conference, Luis Enrique said the Blaugrana had shown a "winning mentality" as they came through to take a 24th Spanish championship title.

"We played very well over the full season, were many weeks on top of the table, and the most consistent team wins the title," Luis Enrique said. "I am very happy for all Barca fans, for our families and the club.

"People suffer a lot in some moments, and now we have won six of the last eight titles -- which shows this club has a winning mentality. We must value each title win, it is worth a lot."

Luis Enrique denied that not having won this season's Champions League -- with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid into the final on May 28 -- took the gloss off a season in which Barca can complete the double by beating Sevilla in next Sunday's Copa del Rey final.

"We set out at the start of the season to win all trophies, as nobody had ever done," he said. "Sometimes people think not winning one is a disaster. I cannot accept that you can win the La Liga title while having a bad season.

"We know how difficult it is to win trophies -- it costs other teams a lot. In history just two teams have previously won consecutive doubles [of Liga and Copa].

"We always set high objectives for ourselves -- and we will keep doing that."

Luis Enrique won the Primera Division for his second straight season as Barcelona manager.

After April's blip, Barca seemed set to blow what had been a big lead in the table. But they then scored 24 times without conceding at all across their five final games to seal the title. Luis Enrique admitted that there had been delicate moments in the season but recalled that theBlaugrana fans had stayed with their team.

"I will remember the good moments, and the people who supported us in delicate moments, which the fans did," he said. "The supporters are with us, despite many things going on all around. So I would tell all cules to go out and enjoy this title."

The former Barca midfielder said he was happy with how his team had dealt with the game, and exploited holes they found in the Granada defence.

"At 0-0 there were risks in the game, but we wanted to attack down the wings, with players arriving from the second line to unbalance Granada," Luis Enrique said. "That way we got to 2-0. Then we could circulate the ball, and pressure our opponent. We dealt well with them at set pieces. We are very happy."

After Granada had played their part in what was at times a bad tempered game, Luis Enrique said he had not paid attention to talk in the last week about any 'maletines' -- cash incentives -- for a side already safe from relegation to give their all against Barca.

"This is a country with lots of speculation -- it always happens here," he said. "Granada had achieved their objective to avoid relegation. It was a competitive game, but we were able to get into a position where we were confident and relaxed."
