Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, this morning filed a notice of appeal and application for stay of execution at the Court of Appeal in Abuja against the ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court. Justice Abang had yesterday sacked Ikpeazu from office after his main contender during the state's PDP primary in 2014, Uche Ogah, proved to the court that Ikpeazu presented fake tax clearance during the gubernatorial primaries. An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 33-year-old man, Imole Emmanuel , in prison custody for allegedly pouring hot soup on a police corporal, Kayode Akingbade . Emmanuel was arraigned on counts of assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of the public peace. He also attempted to snatch the corporal’s rifle. A team of policemen was said to be on surveillance around the Baptist College, Ilawe Road, when one of them asked the suspect to leave the area in order for them to carry out their operation. Akingbade was said to have gone to a canteen to eat about 30 minutes later only for the suspect to trace him there and pour hot soup on him. Moving a bail application, the defence counsel, Gbenga Alabadan, urged the court to grant the accused person bail, saying that he remained innocent until the contrary was proved in court.
