Wenger lashes out at Ospina critics
The Arsenal manager threatened to stop a press
conference amid continued questions regarding
the Colombian following his error in the
Champions League defeat to OlympiacosArsenal
manager Arsene Wenger has hit out at the media
following criticism of David Ospina after his error
in the 3-2 defeat to Olympiacos in the Champions
League in midweek.
Ospina fumbled an Olympiacos corner over his
goal line, leading members of the press to
question why Wenger had picked the Colombia
international over Gunners No.1 Petr Cech for a
must-win game.
However, the Frenchman has now hit out those
who have criticised his team selection, insisting
that "nobody analysed the numbers".
"Look, stop that story, or we stop the press
conference," Wenger told reporters. "I think you
lack creativity in the media, and you follow a
bandwagon that is very, very boring.
"If you question Ospina, I question your
knowledge of football. People don't analyse the
game well. I heard one pundit criticise one thing,
and everyone followed that.
"It's depressing. Yes, the goalkeeper made a
mistake, but we could still have won the game."
Arsenal face Manchester United this weekend,
with the Gunners currently three points behind
Louis van Gaal's league leaders, and Wenger has
confirmed that he will be without Laurent
Koscielny at the Emirates.
"Laurent Koscielny is out for what looks like three
weeks," he added.
"Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta will also miss
out, but Francis Coquelin should be fit."
