Liverpool fires manager, Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool manager, Northern Irishman,
Brendan Rodgers has been sacked following the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
Liverpool confirmed the news via their
official website with the Reds 10th in the
league, six points behind leaders Manchester City.

In a statement, Reds’ owners Fenway Sports Group thanked Rodgers and added:
“Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch. Ambition and winning are at the heart of what we want to bring to Liverpool and we believe this change gives us the best opportunity to deliver it.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was asked for his reaction in his post-match press conference as the news broke, and the Frenchman offered some encouraging words to Rodgers, who he feels was unlucky not to win the Premier League in the 2013-14 season, in which the Reds came second by two points:

It hasn’t gone well for him and he needed to make a good start this season. He was maybe fortunate to stay on at the end of last season. I don’t like doing it now. Do it in the summer if
you want to make a change. He’ll have known himself that he had to make a
good start and he hasn’t.
