Anthony Martial will remain grounded at Manchester United - Louis van Gaal
Louis van Gaal insisted Anthony Martial will not get
carried away by his fast start at Manchester
United after scoring a fourth goal in as many
games.
The £36 million forward came off the bench to
score United's last goal in a 3-0 win over Ipswich
Town in the Capital One Cup, when Wayne Rooney
and Andreas Pereira also struck.
Martial scored on his United debut against
Liverpool and twice in his first Premier League
start against Southampton, but Van Gaal said there
is no danger success will go to his head.
"That is not so difficult because he is a player who
is very modest," he said in a news conference.
"He knows he can score because of his fellow
players."
Van Gaal was able to bring Martial on against
Liverpool and Ipswich when his side were already
ahead and he felt that helped the 19-year-old
Frenchman.
"We made him two times very easily because we
won the game and then the gaps are existing and
then with his speed and his composure he can
score," he explained. "He did it also against
Liverpool and now again. We are happy but still we
have to keep our feet on the ground."
United have been drawn at home against another
Championship club, Middlesbrough, in the fourth
round.
And Van Gaal is anticipating a tough tie, adding: "It
is the top club in the Championship. I don't know
much about them. The scout shall analyse them as
he did with Ipswich Town but it is one of the top
clubs so it shall not be easy.
"Also this game it was not easy. I am happy with
the result and the draw because we are playing at
home. We have to travel a lot so it is fantastic we
stay at home."
