A Giant Falling Rock Almost Caused REAL Game Of Thrones Deaths! Find Out About The Scary Production Rockslide!

The characters in Game Of Thrones are faced with dangers lurking around every corner.
And sometimes, those elements pose real life perils to the cast and crew of HBO 's fantasy series!
During the filming of the upcoming sixth season, the production team of the Emmy -winning series was faced with an unexpected challenge when there was a rockslide at the show's Castle Black set!
This location, which serves as the primary headquarters for the Night's Watch, is settled in Northern Ireland's Magheramorne Quarry — where a practical castle set lies at the bottom of a rock face.

This rock wall is dressed with "ice" and extended with visual effects to look like The Wall, which in the show defends the The Seven Kingdoms from the White Walkers who live in the far north:
The Castle Black set is also in a region that gets heavy rain, which experts told the production team disrupted the quarry's "seismic profile" — leading to a rock slide.
Nobody was hurt when the rockslide occurred earlier this year. GoT showrunner Dan Weiss dryly said that the cast and crew used their best judgement to avoid the area, explaining:
"Once people saw the small pebbles start to come down that turned into slightly larger pebbles, everybody made the group decision to immediately step away from the set."
Good thing because what happened next, as Ser Alliser Thorne actor Owen Teale put it:
"A piece of rock the size of a London townhouse just fell."
The rockslide added a huge challenge for the show's shooting schedule, which is already notoriously known as the hardest production to shoot due to it's complex plot and in-demand cast.

Executive producer Bernie Caulfield and producer Chris Newman are responsible with mapping out the production's convoluted shooting schedule — which is, unlike any other TV drama, entirely shot months in advance — and had to drastically shift the entire season due to the rockslide.
But Weiss says the natural disaster worked out for the best, continuing:
"Bernie and Chris already have hardest scheduling job in the film and TV industry, and they had this thrown into the works too, which caused them to drastically reschedule the whole season on the fly. But they did it, and we got everything we needed in that quarry after it was seismically shored up and netted and proper protection measures were taken. It actually worked out for the best – some of the stuff we were shooting in that location benefited from the additional prep time the rockslide gave us."
Just like its characters , nothing can stop this series from getting the job done!
