31-year-old American swimmer Michael Phelps, who quit the sport after the 2012 Olympic Games, produced a vintage performance on Sunday to claim an astonishing 19th Olympic gold medal of his career after helping his fellow American swimmers win Gold in the 4 x 100 relay event. In front of a raucous crowd that had already witnessed three broken world records earlierSunday night, the U.S. men earned an unexpected gold in their first Olympic relay of  Rio 2016. Caeleb Dressel led off with a strong 48.10-second leg, before the greatest Olympian of all time- Michael Phelps gave America its lead, then Ryan Held contributed the third leg, and a strong close finish by anchor Adrian in 46.97 secured victory. .  Phelps, who produced a stunning second leg, has now won 23 medals in total, extending his record as the most decorated Olympian of all time.

World number one male Tennis player Novak Djokovic was left in tears as he was shockingly eliminated in the first round of Rio Olympics by a determined Juan Martin del Potro who beat him 7-6 7-6 . Novak representing Serbia was shocked by Argentina's Del Potro, who had spent 40 minutes stuck in an elevator in the athletes' village earlier on Sunday. West Ham are keen to bring Norwegian teenager  Martin Odegaard  to east London from Real Madrid on loan,  according to the Sun . The powers that be at the Santiago Bernabeu want the 17-year-old to go out on a temporary deal in order to gain first-team experience. That has attracted the attention of plenty of clubs -- but the Hammers are the most prepared to make a move soon, the report says. Although Liverpool are also interested, the Sun believes West Ham are "the most likely destination for Odegaard" after  Manuel Lanzini  was ruled out for up to five weeks with a knee problem. Frank de Boer is set to be named the new coach of Inter Milan after Roberto Mancini's departure was confirmed on Monday. Mancini's future  has been the subject of speculation  throughout the summer, with reports of a rift with the new Chinese owners. Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has said he will "definitely" be back on top form this season as he said he would be willing to accept a place on the right wing. Walcott was left out of England's Euro 2016 squad after failing to cement a place as a central striker for the Gunners last season and spending much of the spring on the bench. Jose Mourinho said that it is "amazing" that Paul Pogba is set to return to Manchester United, but added that the midfielder needs to work hard to come into the team. Seydou Doumbia has failed to make an impact since joining Roma and will again go out on loan for the 2016-17 season. Roma's Seydou Doumbia will spend the new season on loan at Swiss champions Basel. Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, this morning filed a notice of appeal and application for stay of execution at the Court of Appeal in Abuja against the ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court. Justice Abang had yesterday sacked Ikpeazu from office after his main contender during the state's PDP primary in 2014, Uche Ogah, proved to the court that Ikpeazu presented fake tax clearance during the gubernatorial primaries. China's Communist party has reportedly banned singer Lady Gaga from the country after she posted  a 19 minute video of her meeting Dalai Lama to discuss yoga and ponder on issues such as meditation, mental health and humanity detoxification. Following Lady Gaga’s meeting with him, the Communist party’s mysterious propaganda department issued “an important instruction” banning her entire repertoire from mainland China, Hong Kong’s pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily reported on Monday. The video of the meeting sparked an angry reaction from Beijing, which has attacked the spiritual leader as a “wolf in monk’s robes”. Former Everton and Norwich City defender Joseph Yobo will play in the Nigerian league, according to the competition’s organisers. The League Management Company (LMC) announced the former Nigeria skipper, who recently celebrated a testimonial in his honour, will feature in the last 12 games of the season as an Elite Player, a similar arrangement that saw former World Cup star, Sani Keita play for Enyimba and then FC IfeanyiUbah. The league will pay part of the player’s salary as he is expected to use his “star power” to draw fans to the stadiums.
