Emma Watson Is Taking a Year Off From Acting

Emma Watson is taking a year off acting to focus on two things: reading and furthering her HeForShe gender equality campaign.
The Harry Potter actress revealed in an interview with fellow feminist bell hooks for
Paper Magazine that she's taking a year off from acting to increase her education and the reach of her HeForShe organization. "I'm taking a year away from acting to focus on two things, really. My own personal development is one," she said. "I almost thought about going and doing a year of gender studies, then I realized that I was learning so much by being on the ground and just speaking with people and doing my reading."

The work with HeForShe already began in January when Watson recruited 10 CEOs to be IMPACT champions and release the internal makeup of their companies for public review. "So how many CEOs are male or female, the gender wage gap. We'll be making all of these statements completely transparent, which is huge. It's never been done before," Watson said. "So big companies like Vodafone, Unilever and Tupperware will be standing up to the media and really acknowledging the issues within their own companies and talking about how they are planning to address these issues as HeForShe IMPACT champions. "

The actress will also be taking time for travel and "field trips," an arts week, a university tour as well as launching a new website for HeForShe. Don't worry, Watson will still be making time for personal treats as well. She admits that one of her personal goals is to complete her yoga level 3 for meditation teaching. So not only can Watson school you on modern feminism, but also she can do it while in a very calm headstand. Get it, girl.
