Scholes defends Rooney after 'bad night' against Wolfsburg
The former United midfielder believes the England
skipper can bounce back from his poor night in
front of goal in Europe and refused to criticise the
England skipper's display Paul Scholes has leapt
to the defence of Wayne Rooney after the
Manchester United captain's disappointing
performance in Wednesday's 2-1 Champions
League win over Wolfsburg.
The United striker, who has scored just once in
the Premier League this season, missed a key
opportunity to equalise, hitting over from 8-yards
out following a fine dribble and pull-back from
Anthony Martial.
But despite a lacklustre night in front of goal at Old
Trafford, his former team-mate-turned pundit
Scholes was defiant in his support.
He told BT Sport : "Who cares about social media?
I don't.
"He didn't have his best night, we all saw that, but
we know what Wayne's capable of, if he plays a
full season he's going to score 20-25 goals."
United travel to north London this weekend to take
on Arsenal in the league and Scholes believes
Rooney has the ability to make amends for not
finding the back of the net.
"It probably wasn't his best night but he's the type
of player that can have a bad night and then go
and score two or three goals on Sunday - lets
hope he does that."
