EDITORIAL : Where is Majek Fashek ?

  
         Where is KING MAJEK FASHEK ?,  where is the rain maker we use to know, the one my fathers talked about with so much love and respect , the one they called the next king of reggae after the death of Marley. The chubby cheek reggae hit maker whose songs ruled the world and even Hollywood could not help but notice his musical brilliance and lyrical grandeur. Farber Jim in New York Daily News, 19 January 1992 said "Ziggy may be Bob Marley's biological son, but Majek Fashek is his spiritual heir. In terms of vocal tone, Fashek is Marley's spitting image.... " .

 
 Born Majekodunmi Fasheke in Benin City, Nigeria to an Edo mother and a Yoruba/Ondo state father,grew to be a musical phenomenon with hit tracks like ‘Holy spirit’ , ‘spirit of love’, ‘little patience’, ‘I’m not afraid’ and ‘send down the rain’ just to mention a few from a lot. Now one can’t help but wonder how he got it wrong and will we ever see our Majek rise again, rise above whatever shackles hold him bound.
                                                  
    
 

 Now all we see and hear of the musical icon are controversies and drug related issues . How did he go from glory to dust like a free fall, how and why did he trade his throne for thorns and rags . Many things have been written and said, some in no way helping him,some have made issues worse but what I know is that my Majek Fashek still lives some where inside the shadow of himself that we now see.
         In times like this a little pray won’t be wrong, so I pray that he finds his way back home and makes it rain like the good times, but for now all we have to do is have a little patience.
